Calas de Mallorca Holiday Villas and Apartments for rent. Self catering luxury properties selected for you.
Calas de Mallorca is modern and purpose built for tourists, situated about 70km from Palma Airport on the east coast of the island. It is made up of three small sandy coves, Cala Domingo Gran, Cala Domingo Petit and Cala Antena. They all offer the usual water activities, and in the summer months can be very busy beaches.
There is a road train, the Cala Express that runs throughout the day and early evening to all three of them during the main tourist season. It still runs out of season, but less frequently, and not for such long hours.
There is also a coastal path that connects them all, which gives the walker spectacular sea views as they move from one cove to another.
Most of the day and night entertainments are hotel based, although there are more bars opening up and several of them have live music shows.
The nearest town is Felanitx, which is worth a visit any day of the week, but particularly on a Sunday morning when it hosts what is recognised as one of the best markets on the island. Here you will find locally made pottery and jewellery and if you are prepared to haggle a bit, some real bargains can be bought. There are many other items for sale as well, including fresh local fruit and vegetables, which if you are self-catering you will find to be cheaper and much nicer than the supermarkets equivalents, because it is so much fresher.
If you go another 45 minutes north you will reach Manacor, one of the larger towns of Majorca. It is where the famous Mallorcan pearl was first made, and Majorica still has a retail outlet in the town. As well as the pearls, Manacor is famous for the furniture made there, it being very popular all over Mallorca.
Monday morning is when they hold their street market, another one that is very busy and well worth a visit. It is best to remember that street markets on Mallorca are morning markets so the earlier you go the better, they all tend to close at around lunchtime.
If you do not mind a journey of just over an hour, visiting the towns of Puerto Pollenca and Alcudia on the north west of the island is a really good day out for folk of all ages. You can get most of the way to them on motorways, which pass along side the Tramuntana Mountains, they are both very well sign posted.
You will find stunning long golden beaches, with shops, bars and restaurants galore. If you like history, parts of Alcudia still have Roman remains and relics for the tourist to view.
When you are on any road in Mallorca you will see signs for many wonderful places that you have probably never heard of – be adventurous and take a turning, you will find some truly amazing views, traditional villages and wonderful beaches, all there waiting to welcome you. Just as the property you have rented from Balearic Villas will be ready and waiting to welcome you to your holiday on Mallorca.
