Cala Murada is accessible from the Porto Cristo to Porto Colom road, just two bays north of Porto Colom. It was originally a small fishing village, which has grown into a small tourist resort.
Cala Murada is where anyone that is looking for total peace and tranquility should go, the perfect place to relax. For some years it was a resort where the wealthy built their homes, but in recent times, more affordable quality homes have been built in the area.
The beach of golden sands and clear blue waters has a European Blue Flag, with a gentle slope into the sea, making it a safe beach for children and those among us who cannot swim. In the summer months there are sunshades and umbrellas for hire at a very reasonable charge, and lifeguards for added peace of mind.
If you feel in the walking mood, there is a coastal path from Cala Murada that takes to you the beautiful bays of Cala Domingos Petite and Cala Domingos.
Market day is Thursday, and on the stalls for sale will be jewelry, pottery, clothing and fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables. The size of the town prohibits the size of the market and if you prefer a larger market, the one in Felanitx on Sundays is well worth a trip. Only 20 minutes from Cala Murada, the town of Felanitx has much to offer as well as the market.
Felanitx is renowned for its wines and brandy, still made in the traditional way that it has been for hundreds of years. Till the late 19th century it was the main export of the area, mainly to France.
Head northwards along the coast and you will pass many bays and coves to eventually reach Porto Cristo, about a 45-minute drive.
Porto Cristo is where to head if you want to see inside the caves, as there are two sets, Coves del Drach and Coves del Hams. Going down into the depths of the ground is an experience not to be missed, and it has been made as easy for tourists as possible.
Just 10 minutes inland from Porto Cristo is the large town of Manacor, the centre of the pearl manufacturing industry on Mallorca. Manacor hosts one of the busiest street markets on the island, every Monday.
What you should remember about Mallorcan markets is that you need to visit them in the mornings. They start early and tend to close around lunchtime, so the stallholders can have their traditional Spanish siesta.
